Impact Statement By joining our Youth in Food Systems team, you can learn about and explore food systems while gaining skills, communicating your learnings with peers, and building capabilities for future career (agri-food and others!) and personal aspirations.
The Market is a series of youth-led, pay-what-you-choose produce stalls running each summer in Waterloo Region. In 2026, markets will operate weekly for seven weeks in Kitchener’s Eastwood and Victoria Hills neighbourhoods, plus a new location in Cambridge’s Galt area. Ahead of the main season, there are field trips, training days, and other opportunities to connect, learn, and build leadership skills!

Description We're looking for youth (14-19) to join as Market and Garden Leaders!
Market Leaders co-design and run the markets. Each Market Leader can expect to attend 4+ Market days - Wednesday evenings in July & August.
Garden Leaders grow produce for market in six school gardens across the region. Each Garden Leader is expected to attend 5+ weeks of team get togethers and garden care in July & August.

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Biweekly field trips during March - May Two half-day Saturday training sessions on May 23rd and June 6th Pre-season team planning gatherings in late June to early July

Time Commitment
Duration: 4 - 6 months Weekday - Evening, Weekend - Daytime Variable and flexible. Activities from March - June will be evenings and Saturdays (up to 8 hours/month). July & August will be between 2 and 4 hours weekly.
YFS doesn't expect you to be able to attend all activities throughout the season but you will be expected to attend as many as you can. You’ll remain accountable to your team and to yourself throughout the project. Honorariums of up to $200 will be participation-based!
