   About the Position

Impact Statement
Residents of Waterloo Region have benefited over decades in deepening their community connections, working hands-on on issues that matter to them, and building up social safety networks for their families, communities and especially for the underserved equity deserving groups. We bring people together to lead and shape the lives from the grassroots up.

This position will be training once a week in August as it is our slow season. The Program Agent will begin drop-in hours twice a week in September.

Description
As an OESP Agent Volunteer, you will support individuals and families with low incomes in accessing the Ontario Electricity Support Program. This program provides monthly on-bill credits to help reduce electricity costs. Your role will involve guiding applicants through the process, verifying eligibility, completing applications, and offering general information about the program.

You will have the option to volunteer remotely through email and phone call appointments.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist clients in completing OESP applications, either in-person or over the phone
- Review documentation for eligibility (e.g., income statements, utility bills)
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with care
- Communicate program requirements clearly and patiently to diverse community members
- Track and report application outcomes and support needs
Provide referrals to other community resources as needed

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Training will take place in August (the summer is the slow season for OESP), you will work with our 2 current agents in-person in August, then will begin working weekly on the program in September. There is an option to work mostly remote through email and on the phone.
Working Conditions: Training in-person, options to work completely remote, through using email and phone. Please note that the majority of the work is completed independently and online. This role is best suited for individuals who are comfortable working remotely with minimal face-to-face interaction.

Time Commitment

Duration: 1 year or more
Weekday - Daytime
Drop-in hours are from 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. 2 days a week.
