   About the Position

Impact Statement
Did you know we make and deliver hundreds of meals every day, Monday through Friday?

The Meals on Wheels program provides older adults and adults with different abilities who are unable to prepare their own meals with nutritious, hot, and/or frozen meals. Volunteers deliver meals over the lunch hour while providing a friendly chat and a check on clients' wellbeing, helping people across Waterloo Region live at home with independence and dignity.

Description
During a Meals on Wheels delivery shift, volunteers will:
- Deliver hot and/or frozen meals to approximately 7-13 clients, depending on the day and service demand, following the route sheets provided.
- Conduct a brief security check and provide friendly social contact to clients.
- Report any undelivered meals or absent clients to the office.
- Report any concerns about clients to the office.
- Maintain complete confidentiality regarding all client information.

Requirements:
- Access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
- A minimum valid G2 driver's licence.
- Minimum $1 million in automobile liability insurance.

Mileage reimbursement is available.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: All volunteers receive agency-wide and program-specific training before their first shift. Volunteers also complete a shadow shift with an experienced volunteer before their first solo delivery shift.

The Program Coordinator is available to discuss concerns and provide ongoing support as needed. Community Support Connections also offers volunteer educational workshops on a variety of topics throughout the year, with all volunteers notified of upcoming sessions.
Working Conditions: Volunteers must be physically fit to lift and carry thermal meal bags weighing approximately 20 pounds each. Deliveries can be completed individually or with others, allowing volunteers to split driving and delivery responsibilities.

Time Commitment

Duration: 3 months or less
Weekday - Daytime
Delivery routes take approximately 1-1.5 hours and take place between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. There are no deliveries on weekends or statutory holidays.
