Research shows that youth who participate in career guidance activities experience lower levels of unemployment, earn higher wages, and are happier in their careers as adults, especially when they connect directly with members of the workforce. By guiding youth to make informed decisions about their future, we strengthen our community’s workforce and well-being.

Description
The Business & Education Partnership connects local educators with community members who want to volunteer their time and expertise to support students' career development.
We are seeking community members who would like to be added to our roster of community career speakers. Speakers receive periodic requests to provide career talks in classrooms, individually, or to join multi-speaker events, typically in schools.
Speakers simply share about their career story (what they do, how they got there) and aim to engage young people to ask questions.
There is no minimum time commitment. Volunteers have the option to accept or decline invitations, but our hope is that they will fulfill at least one request per year.

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Volunteers will participate in a brief interview and onboarding session. The BEP provides presentation tips and resources to help community members effectively share their knowledge, expertise, and/or career story with local students. Speakers are bringing their own story to life for students. Some preparation is expected.
Working Conditions: Volunteering in local schools and/or virtually under the supervision of school staff. Volunteers will always be supported by the classroom teacher.

Transportation: Car required

Time Commitment
Duration: 7 - 12 months
Weekday - Daytime
Time is flexible to your availability and varies based on the needs of the educator seeking a volunteer. For example, a speaking opportunity in a classroom may be only an hour or less.
