Description
The Forestry and Natural Areas Team is looking for volunteers interested in environmental restoration to join our Kitchener Nature Stewards program.
Gain hands-on field experience with various aspects of ecological stewardship and restoration, initially focused on invasive plant species identification and removal.
We are recruiting for two roles:
- Individual Stewards will help with the manual work (ages 14+)
- Lead Stewards will take on a leadership role of their group, reporting back to staff (ages 18+)
No prior experience is necessary. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Training and orientation provided online and in-field by City staff prior to volunteer shifts. Field safety, plant identification, and plant removal will be covered in training.
Working Conditions: - Outdoors in Lakeside Park or Westheights Park
- Ability to lift 20 lbs
- Ability to stand, kneel, sit, pull, and/or dig for up to 3 hours
- Comfortable working independently or in self-led groups
- Working in tick habitat
Accessibility: Support volunteers with special needs, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route

Duration: 4 - 6 months
Start Date: 2026-05-01
End Date: 2026-10-02
Anytime
Flexible based on volunteer capacity, minimum of 5 hours per season.
