By sharing your time with members of the Wayside community, you help create a sense of belonging and support. The relationships created at Waterloo Wayside are foundational for participants living independently while connected to an inclusive community that recognizes everyone's gifts and abilities.

Description
One of Wayside’s largest programs is the Bridgeport Café, an afternoon drop in program for anyone looking for food or fellowship. The Café is volunteer run and led and is open Tuesday to Friday every week from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. The Café offers guests an assortment of hot and cold food and drinks. Other forms of programming including music and art are offered at the Café based on the interests and availability of the volunteers. The Closer is at the Café from approximately 2:00pm to 4:00pm and responsible for assisting with clean up in the kitchen, putting out the garbage/recycling, putting away the tables/chairs and assisting with a security check of the building.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: On-site orientation will be provided, including safety procedures and discussion about Wayside’s values/approach.
Working Conditions: The Closer will be working alongside a team of volunteers. You may encounter individuals who are newcomers to Canada, experience mental health issues, substance use disorder, mobility issues, and poverty. Mostly standing/walking on a hard-surfaced floor and you must be able to go up and down stairs.
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Support volunteers with special needs, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 3 months or less
Weekday - Daytime
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and/or Friday afternoon approximately between 2-4pm.
