Impact Statement House of Friendship’s ShelterCare program integrates healthcare within shelter services. The goal of this facility is to provide a dignified space to better serve individuals experiencing homelessness and mental health related issues. ShelterCare aims to provide appropriate supports on-site and empower participants so that they may reach positive outcomes for both their health and housing.

Description Volunteers will assist ShelterCare staff with setting up, facilitating, and cleaning up after this drop-in Arts and Crafts program for participants while maintaining professional boundaries. Volunteers will not be required to prepare crafts ahead of time or provide any supplies.
May be required to lift a medium (15-20lb) load. Encountering participants on-site who may be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected. Volunteers must be 18 years old or older, and a 6 month commitment is required.

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Volunteers will complete a virtual interview, two (2) reference checks, provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check (reimbursed by House of Friendship), and complete 2 hours of virtual trainings prior to starting in the role. Working Conditions: Working indoors in a shelter environment. Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Support volunteers with special needs, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers Transportation: On a bus route

Time Commitment
Duration: 7 - 12 months Weekday - Daytime Weekly on Tuesdays from 10:45am-12:15pm.
