Horse Leader / Side Walker
Therapeutic Horseback Riding Fall Session

Impact Statement Pride Stables offers therapeutic horseback riding to individuals with disabilities through our volunteer-based program. Volunteers play an essential role in supporting riders during classes by leading horses or side-walking alongside riders. We couldn't do what we do without our amazing volunteers!

Description Pride Stables is looking for volunteers to support our riding programs during the Fall Session. Volunteers will assist riders with disabilities by either leading horses or side-walking alongside riders during classes.
No prior horse experience is necessary. Volunteers must be 15 years of age or older and able to understand and follow instructions. Side-walkers must also be able to communicate instructions to riders and provide physical assistance or support when needed.
Both roles require physical endurance, strong verbal communication skills, and excellent English comprehension.

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: All new volunteers must attend a 2-hour orientation session, where they will receive training on everything they need to know for the role. New volunteers will also be paired with experienced volunteers for additional support.
Fall Orientation Dates: - Thursday, September 10: 12:00-2:00 p.m. - Tuesday, September 15: 12:00-2:00 p.m. or 6:00-8:00 p.m. - Wednesday, September 16: 12:00-2:00 p.m. or 6:00-8:00 p.m. - Saturday, September 19: 12:00-2:00 p.m. - Monday, September 21: 12:00-2:00 p.m. or 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. Working Conditions: This role takes place primarily outdoors, weather permitting, with indoor activities provided during poor weather. Volunteers should be comfortable standing and walking for extended periods, reaching, and working safely around large animals. Transportation: Not on a bus route

Time Commitment
Duration: 3 months or less Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening Volunteers are asked to commit to a 90-minute shift once a week for the full 8-week session. Classes begin in late September and run through mid-November.
